Those of you who watched President´s Biden inauguration were undoubtedly impressed by the stunning outfit worn by Lady Gaga. I, personally, was totally smashed… The outfit and the dove brooch were designed by Maison Schiaparelli in Paris and by its Artistic Director Daniel Roseberry. Maison Schiaparelli has a long history that has known its ups and downs. But with Daniel Roseberry, a new and exciting page has begun. The founder of the “Maison” – Elsa Schiaparelli herself- was a great iconoclastic designer. For her jewellery line she cooperated with great artists of her time, including Salvador Dali.
In 1935, Salvador Dali designed a powder compact in the shape of a telephone dial for Elsa Schiaparelli. It was their first collaboration, to be followed by many others. A technical object, the telephone dial, was transformed into a cosmetic case to ultimately achieve the status of a work of art. What a transformation! Modern surrealistic designs by Daniel Roseberry totally fall into the category of art objects and collectible items. Bravo, Daniel! www.schiaparelli.com
